According to the Hattiesburg Police Department, officers were called around 1:19 a.m. Thursday to the 800 block of Main Street in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, after receiving a report of a possible stabbing. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered a victim suffering from injuries related to the incident. Despite emergency efforts, Rodney Gatlin was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities said the stabbing happened during a dispute between two roommates. Following the investigation at the scene, police arrested Trameika Carr, 48, of Hattiesburg, and charged her with second-degree murder. Carr was transported to the Forrest County Jail, where she remains as the legal process moves forward.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem officially identified the victim as Rodney Gatlin. His remains were sent to the crime lab for an autopsy as investigators work to gather more information and determine the complete circumstances surrounding his death.

The Hattiesburg Police Department confirmed that this was an isolated incident and that there is no threat to the public.
