With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Clark County community are mourning the tragic loss of Eli Miller, 18, who died following a devastating horse and buggy versus pickup truck crash in the Town of York, Wisconsin, on July 17.
According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash happened at the intersection of Meridian Avenue and Pine Creek Road. Authorities said the initial investigation determined that a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling west on Pine Creek Road near Meridian Avenue when it entered the intersection.
At the same time, a horse and buggy traveling north reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, entered the intersection, and was struck by the pickup truck.
The impact caused the pickup truck to leave the roadway and come to rest in the north ditch of Pine Creek Road, west of the intersection. The horse and buggy came to a stop on the roadway west of the intersection.
The pickup truck was driven by 19-year-old Zechariah Drinka, who, along with one passenger, was not injured. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The buggy was operated by Eli Miller, who was transported to Marshfield Medical Center for treatment. Despite medical efforts, Miller later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash remains ongoing.
