Derrick Coleman, 32, of Houston Identified as Victim in Fatal Shooting at Downtown Shreveport Hotel

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Houston and Shreveport communities are mourning the tragic loss of Derrick Coleman, 32, who died after a shooting in the parking lot of a downtown Shreveport hotel early Monday morning.

According to the Shreveport Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 1:07 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, to the Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the 200 block of Lake Street following reports of a man suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body.

When officers arrived, they found Coleman in the parking lot with life-threatening injuries. Police immediately rendered aid before he was transported to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport for emergency medical treatment.

Despite lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, Derrick Coleman, of Houston, Texas, was pronounced deceased at 7:19 a.m. at the hospital.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office later identified Coleman as the victim. An autopsy has been ordered to help determine the exact cause and manner of death as investigators continue to gather evidence.

Coleman’s death marks Shreveport’s 27th confirmed homicide of 2026, underscoring another tragic loss for the community.
