With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Marble Hill, Missouri, community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Andrew Rhodes, 39, whose life ended following a tragic and violent assault on Monday morning.
According to authorities, officers responded to the 1300 block of N. Main Street after receiving a report of a man lying on the ground and bleeding. When officers arrived, they discovered Andrew deceased at the scene. The Major Case Squad was activated to assist with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Investigators said Andrew was assaulted and struck multiple times around the head with a long pole. Authorities said the suspect left the scene after the initial attack but returned approximately 10 minutes later and allegedly struck Andrew again before taking his pants and leaving.
Authorities identified Gabreal McBride, 45, of Cape Girardeau, as the suspect in the case. McBride has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and two counts of armed criminal action. Authorities said McBride claimed he attacked Andrew because he believed Andrew had robbed him in the past.
Andrew’s sudden and tragic passing has left an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He was more than the circumstances surrounding his death—he was a son, a family member, a friend, and a person whose life held meaning to those who shared memories with him.
As loved ones come to terms with this devastating loss, they are left holding onto the moments, memories, and connections that made Andrew special. No words can truly express the pain of losing someone in such a heartbreaking way, but the love and support of family, friends, and the community can provide comfort during this difficult time.
The Marble Hill community joins together in remembering Andrew and offering condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. While authorities continue their investigation and the legal process moves forward, those who loved Andrew are focused on honoring his life and keeping his memory alive.
