Two men lost their lives in a tragic crash Tuesday morning after the Chevrolet van they were traveling in drifted across Interstate 81 North and struck a disabled Amazon tractor-trailer parked along the shoulder in Dauphin County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 10 a.m. on Interstate 81 North in Lower Paxton Township. Investigators said the Chevrolet van unexpectedly veered across multiple lanes of traffic before crashing into an Amazon tractor-trailer that had been disabled and was legally parked on the right shoulder with its emergency hazard lights activated.
The Dauphin County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Trevon Wallace, 28, of West Virginia, who was driving the van, and Anthony Pena, 41, of Westmoreland County, who was riding as a passenger. Both men suffered multiple traumatic injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner ruled both deaths accidental.
Authorities have not yet determined what caused the van to leave the roadway. As part of the ongoing investigation, Pennsylvania State Police said troopers are reviewing footage from the van’s dashboard camera in hopes of determining the events leading up to the collision.
Officials also have not confirmed whether anyone was inside the disabled Amazon tractor-trailer at the time of the crash.
The devastating accident led to significant traffic disruptions, with Interstate 81 North experiencing hours-long delays as emergency crews responded to the scene, conducted their investigation, and cleared the wreckage.
