A tragic pedestrian crash on Interstate 59 has claimed the life of Jackson Lee Hall, 61, of Sandersville, after he was struck by an 18-wheeler while walking along the interstate.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP), troopers responded shortly before 7:00 a.m. Monday to a reported crash on I-59 in Jones County involving a pedestrian and a commercial truck.
Investigators said a 2000 Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling southbound on I-59 when it struck Hall, who was walking along the interstate at the time of the collision. Authorities said Hall was also walking with a bicycle, and the Jones County Sheriff’s Department reported that a damaged bicycle was found at the crash scene.
Following the collision, Hall was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, officials confirmed that he later died from injuries sustained in the crash on Wednesday.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the incident.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol, as authorities continue working to determine what led to the tragic collision.
