Man Killed, Three Injured in Bessemer Charter Bus Stabbing Incident

A deadly stabbing aboard a charter bus in Jefferson County left one man dead and several others injured Monday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 1:13 p.m. at the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter after reports of a disturbance on a bus carrying security personnel traveling from Tennessee to Louisiana.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found four people suffering from stab wounds inside the vehicle. One of the victims, later identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office as 22-year-old Darryel Sutton of New Orleans, Louisiana, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional victims were injured and transported for medical treatment.

Authorities said the charter bus was stopped at the Walmart location when the violence erupted. A suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident, and officials confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the public.

At this time, investigators have not released a motive or further details about what led to the confrontation. The investigation remains active as detectives continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses.

Police expressed condolences to those impacted, saying their thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected. They also credited first responders for their quick response in securing the scene and providing emergency care.
