In Loving Memory of Jose Salgado-Amador

Family, friends, and members of the Austin, Texas community are mourning the heartbreaking and tragic loss of 28-year-old Jose Salgado-Amador, whose life was senselessly cut short during a fatal shooting Monday night in southeast Austin.

According to investigators, Jose was working as a mechanic in the parking lot of an AutoZone located on East Riverside Drive when he was approached by a suspect in what authorities believe was an attempted robbery. Police say the suspect confronted Jose, demanded property, and during the encounter, opened fire before fleeing the scene in a light-colored sedan.

Officers with the Austin Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 10:47 p.m. and arrived within minutes, finding Jose suffering from serious gunshot wounds in the parking lot. In an effort to save his life, officers immediately performed CPR and applied a tourniquet before emergency medical crews transported him to a nearby hospital. Despite every life-saving effort made by first responders, Jose was sadly pronounced dead later that night.
