Authorities are investigating a deadly shooting that left one man dead Tuesday morning in East Moline, Illinois, and resulted in the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect on a first-degree murder charge.
According to the East Moline Police Department, officers responded at approximately 6:30 a.m. to the Crowne Forest Apartment Complex on 49th Avenue Court after receiving reports of a gunshot victim.
When officers arrived, they located a man inside an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified by loved ones as Ebk Kelz, was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Following the incident, the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Anthony L. Tem of Rock Island, was located by the Rock Island Police Department near 5th Street and 39th Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m.
Officials reported that Tem attempted to flee from officers, leading to a brief pursuit during which he drove into an apartment building at the Maple Ridge Apartment Complex. Police say the suspect ultimately surrendered and was taken into custody at around 9:10 a.m.
Tem has been booked into the Rock Island County Jail on a charge of first-degree murder, pending formal charges as the investigation continues.
Law enforcement officials say multiple agencies are working together to gather evidence and determine what led to the deadly encounter.
