One Killed, One Critically Hurt in U.S. 23 Crash in Lowmansville

One person is dead and another remains in critical condition following a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Lawrence County.

According to Kentucky State Police, the collision occurred around 7:35 a.m. on U.S. 23 in Lowmansville. Investigators say a southbound Kia Sorento, driven by 22-year-old Johnathan Haney, crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes before colliding with a semi tractor-trailer.

Authorities said 20-year-old Kaitlyn Delong of Lovely was a passenger in the Kia Sorento and was ejected during the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Kia, Johnathan Haney, was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the semi tractor-trailer was not injured in the collision.

Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, and traffic in the area was temporarily impacted while investigators worked to document and clear the roadway.

Officials have not yet released additional details regarding what may have caused the vehicle to cross the median. It remains unclear whether speed, distraction, or other factors played a role in the crash.

Kentucky State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Troopers are expected to review physical evidence, roadway conditions, and any available witness statements as part of their ongoing inquiry.
