In Loving Memory of Jessica Schmock, Beloved Mother of Three

Family members, friends, and loved ones are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jessica Schmock, a 39-year-old mother of three whose life was tragically cut short in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 196 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, early Friday morning.

According to authorities, Schmock was driving home from work when a vehicle traveling the wrong way in the westbound lanes of I-196 near Lane Avenue collided with her vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. The crash claimed the lives of both drivers. Jessica’s sudden and unexpected death has left her family devastated and struggling to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.

Born in Grand Rapids and a resident of Jenison, Jessica was known for her warm personality, compassionate spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind three sons—Hunter, 20, Kayden, 16, and Jaxon, 3—who were the center of her world. Those who knew her say her greatest joy in life was being a mother and caring for the people she loved.

In a heartfelt tribute, her family described Jessica as someone who always placed the needs of others before her own. They remembered her as a devoted mother, loving daughter, twin sister, sister, aunt, and friend whose kindness touched countless lives. Her ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and turn strangers into friends was one of the many qualities that made her so special.

“Jessica was very family-oriented and always put others before herself,” her family shared. “She was a great mother, a twin, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend and just a great person all around.”

As news of her passing spread, an outpouring of grief and support emerged from family members, friends, coworkers, and community members. Many have shared memories of Jessica’s generosity, infectious smile, and caring nature, recalling the positive impact she had on everyone she met.

In the wake of the tragedy, Jessica’s eldest son, Hunter, established a GoFundMe campaign to assist with funeral expenses and help provide his mother with the farewell she deserves. The fundraiser has become a place where loved ones can express their condolences and share memories of a woman who meant so much to so many.

Though her life ended far too soon, Jessica Schmock’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Her memory will continue to inspire those she leaves behind, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
