A husband and wife were killed Sunday afternoon after a large tree fell onto their vehicle in Leake County, Mississippi.
According to Leake County Coroner Earl Adams, the incident occurred on Mars Hill Road around 1:20 p.m. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene after reports of a tree falling on a vehicle.
The Leake County Sheriff’s Office said Brandon Moore, 39, and Sandra Moore, 40, were traveling south on Mars Hill Road in a white Toyota RAV4 when a large pine tree fell across the front compartment of the vehicle.
Both Brandon and Sandra Moore were pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner Adams.
Authorities believe the fatal incident was weather-related. The Leake County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
In a statement, Sheriff Randy Atkinson expressed condolences to the family and loved ones of the couple.
“On behalf of the Leake County Sheriff’s Office, I wish to express our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones affected by the tragic loss,” Atkinson said. “These individuals were valued members of our community, and they will be remembered fondly by those who knew them.”
The sudden loss of the couple has left family members, friends, and the Leake County community mourning as they remember two lives tragically cut short.
