31-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Struck by Alleged Drunk Driver in Pueblo

The Pueblo County Coroner has identified the woman who was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash early Wednesday morning as 31-year-old Leann R. Lucero.

According to the Pueblo Police Department, officers responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian in the 600 block of West Northern Avenue at approximately 2:20 a.m. on June 10, 2026. Upon arrival, emergency responders found Lucero critically injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say the driver involved in the crash fled the area immediately after the collision. However, a witness who observed the incident followed the vehicle while contacting 911, providing officers with crucial information that helped locate the suspect.

Police later discovered the vehicle abandoned in the 200 block of West Northern Avenue and located the suspected driver, identified as Dahir Ortiz Espinoza, walking nearby. Authorities have announced that Espinoza faces multiple charges, including Vehicular Homicide, Failure to Remain at the Scene of a Fatal Crash, Failure to Report a Fatal Crash, Reckless Driving, and Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

The tragic death of Leann Lucero has left family members, friends, and community members grieving the loss of a young woman whose life was cut short far too soon. As loved ones come to terms with the devastating news, many are remembering her life and the memories she shared with those around her.
