A tragic shooting inside a Livonia, Michigan home has left four people dead, including a husband and wife, their son, and his girlfriend, as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the devastating incident.
According to Livonia Police Chief Thomas Goralski, a 25-year-old Livonia man remains in police custody following the shooting that occurred Tuesday evening at a residence on Rensellors Street. While no formal charges had been filed as of Wednesday morning, police said they are working closely with the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, with charges potentially expected in the coming days.
Authorities identified the victims as Sterling Ray Pierce, 58, and Holly Marie Kimball, 53, the suspect’s parents. Also killed were the suspect’s younger brother, Tanner Pierce, 22, and Tanner’s girlfriend, Nevaeh May Jaslynn Finch, 21, who lived in Warren but frequently stayed at the family home.
Police were dispatched to the residence shortly before 6 p.m. Tuesday following reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they encountered a man walking outside the home. According to investigators, the man immediately told officers that he had fired a weapon at others inside the residence. He was taken into custody without incident.
During the investigation, officers recovered a firearm from the scene. Authorities said Sterling Pierce and Holly Kimball were found deceased in the backyard, while Tanner Pierce and Nevaeh Finch were discovered inside the home. Two victims were located in a bedroom, and two others were found outside. All four victims were pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds.
Chief Goralski stated that investigators learned there had been a “contentious relationship” between the suspect and his parents. However, police have not identified any known disputes involving the suspect and his brother. The police chief also noted that the suspect has no known criminal history and that officers had not previously been called to the residence for domestic disturbances or other incidents.
The tragedy has shocked the Livonia community. Goralski described the shooting as a crime that occurred entirely within the confines of the family home, adding that incidents of this nature are rare in the city. Until a recent fatal stabbing, Livonia had gone approximately three years without a homicide.
The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine a motive and piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting. Meanwhile, family members, friends, and community members are mourning the heartbreaking loss of four lives taken in a single act of violence.
