BALDWIN — A woman has died following a train collision in Baldwin on Wednesday afternoon, officials confirmed.
Emergency responders were first called to the Rosebud Road railroad crossing after reports that a pedestrian had been struck along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe tracks on the west side of the city. When crews arrived, they found Jennifer Lanceslin, 61, critically injured at the scene.
First responders provided immediate aid before transporting her to Franklin’s Riverbend Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Authorities said the incident remains under investigation as they work to determine the exact circumstances leading up to the collision.
The Rosebud Road crossing, where the incident occurred, is monitored by warning lights and crossing gates. According to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), it is considered among the lower-risk crossings in the state, ranking 1,740th out of 2,710 crossings on the agency’s predicted accident list. The location sees an estimated five trains per day and about 120 vehicles daily, with trains authorized to travel up to 70 mph through the area.
Following the incident, Baldwin Police Chief Anthony Gibson expressed his condolences to Lanceslin’s family, adding that she had done a great deal of work for the Baldwin community.
Her death has deeply impacted family, friends, and residents, who are now mourning the sudden loss of a woman remembered by many in the area.
Officials said further details will be released as the investigation continues.
