Madison County Man Charged After Admitting to Mother’s Killing

MADISON COUNTY, Iowa — A 23-year-old Madison County man has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities say he admitted to fatally shooting his mother at a rural residence near Winterset.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched shortly after 10 a.m. on Monday to the 2300 block of 148th Street for a welfare check on 60-year-old Tammy Corkrean.

When deputies arrived, they discovered Corkrean deceased inside the residence from multiple gunshot wounds.

During the investigation, authorities questioned her son, 23-year-old Theodore Corkrean, who allegedly admitted to investigators that he shot his mother the day prior.

Theodore Corkrean was taken into custody at the scene and later booked into the Madison County Jail. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is awaiting arraignment.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains ongoing. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the West Des Moines Police Department are assisting in the case.
