The Jackson Police Department is investigating a homicide after a 19-year-old man was shot and killed Thursday afternoon on Woody Drive.
According to Police Chief RaShall Brackney, officers were called to the 900 block of Woody Drive in Jackson around 12:50 p.m. following reports of an aggravated assault and shots fired. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified by family members as 19-year-old Javion Clinton of Jackson.
Police said several weapons were recovered from the backyard of the residence, and investigators believe more than one suspect may have been involved in the shooting. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses as they work to determine what led to the deadly incident.
Family members are remembering Clinton as a loving, intelligent, and funny young man who had a bright future ahead of him. Loved ones said he was one of seven siblings and had recently graduated from Forest Hill High School.
Relatives also shared that Clinton had recently begun working at a Coca-Cola plant and had future plans to leave in September to pursue employment in the oil fields in Texas.
As the investigation continues, the Jackson Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward. No arrests have been announced at this time.
