OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. — A man has died and a woman was injured following a domestic violence-related shooting inside a home in Olive Branch on Friday afternoon, according to police.
Officers with the Olive Branch Police Department responded to a residence on Fox Tree Lane shortly after 1:00 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Authorities said a woman called 911 at approximately 1:06 p.m., reporting that she had been shot in the hand.
When officers arrived, they found a man outside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Police immediately began life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Loved ones have identified the victim as Brandon King.
The woman who called 911 was treated at the scene for a gunshot wound to her hand before being released. Officials have not released additional information regarding her condition or her relationship to the deceased.
Investigators said multiple people who were inside the residence at the time of the shooting were detained as detectives worked to determine exactly what led to the violence. Authorities have described the incident as a domestic situation but have not disclosed further details about the events leading up to the shooting or whether any charges have been filed.
Police also confirmed that three children were inside the home when the gunfire erupted. Fortunately, none of the children were physically injured during the incident.
Olive Branch Police Chief Carlos Garcia urged anyone experiencing domestic violence or feeling unsafe in a relationship to seek help before situations escalate into tragedy.
“We would like to encourage those to speak out and even call us to see if they need assistance, that we could put them in the right direction for that assistance so it doesn’t get to this point,” Garcia said.
Investigators remained at the scene for several hours gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses as they continued working to determine exactly what occurred. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not yet released additional information surrounding the circumstances of the shooting.
