With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Baton Rouge community mourn the tragic and sudden loss of Tray Young, 30, who died following a fatal shooting on July 4, 2026.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, officers were called at approximately 1:15 a.m. to the Calumet Street near Anita Avenue area after reports of a shooting. When authorities arrived, they found Tray Young suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite emergency response efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigators said the incident stemmed from a verbal altercation that escalated into gunfire. Authorities identified the suspect as Precious Holliday, 25, who was later arrested and charged with negligent homicide in connection with the shooting.
Police confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Tray’s sudden passing has left his family and community in deep grief. He is remembered for his life, his presence, and the moments he shared with those closest to him. Those who knew him continue to mourn a loss that came far too soon.
