Two Women Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 73 in Port Arthur

Two women were killed in a devastating two-vehicle crash on Highway 73 late Saturday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS).

Authorities identified the victims as Hillary Newton, 38, of Port Arthur, and Blanca Sandino, 45, of Port Arthur.

Investigators said preliminary findings indicate that Newton was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 73 when her vehicle collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Sandino.

The impact of the crash proved fatal for both drivers, who were pronounced deceased as a result of their injuries.

Officials also confirmed that three children, ages 12, 14, and 16, were inside one of the vehicles at the time of the crash. They survived the collision.

Texas DPS said the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine all contributing factors in the wrong-way crash.

Emergency responders remained at the scene for an extended period as they assisted the injured and worked to clear the roadway.

Authorities have not released additional details at this time.

The crash has left the Port Arthur community in shock, with many expressing condolences and support for the families affected by the tragic loss.
