NATCHEZ, Miss. — Law enforcement officials are investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday evening at Southside Market, leaving multiple people injured and prompting the temporary closure of the store.
According to Natchez Police Chief Lee Best, at least three people were injured by gunfire inside the store and were transported to Merit Health Natchez for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not yet been released.
Chief Best said preliminary information suggests the incident stemmed from a disturbance involving two patrons and an employee, during which gunfire was exchanged and all three individuals were struck.
Police and other law enforcement agencies responded both at the scene of the shooting and at the hospital as part of the ongoing investigation.
Southside Market has been closed while authorities continue to gather evidence and determine exactly what led to the violent encounter.
