According to the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department, emergency crews were dispatched at approximately 7:00 p.m. Sunday to the Current River near Float Camp after receiving a report of a missing person. A search was launched immediately, and authorities later recovered a body from the river. While officials have not yet publicly released the victim’s identity, Byron Surrell was identified by family members. The Ripley County Sheriff’s Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
Byron’s passing is a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly life can change.
