A tragic crash in Fairfield County claimed the lives of a 25-year-old woman and a 3-year-old child Thursday evening in Berne Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), the crash happened shortly before 7:35 p.m. on Brennan Road SE near Lake Road SE.
Investigators said Miranda Maughmer, 25, was driving east on Brennan Road in a 2023 Kia Forte with her 3-year-old child and 8-month-old infant inside when the vehicle crossed over to the left side of the roadway and collided with a 2015 GMC Acadia.
Maughmer was transported to Fairfield Medical Center, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash. The 3-year-old child also suffered fatal injuries and died following the collision.
The 8-month-old infant survived the crash with minor injuries and was properly secured in a seat belt, according to authorities. The driver of the GMC Acadia was taken to Fairfield Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The tragic incident has left family, friends, and members of the community grieving the loss of two lives while keeping the surviving child and everyone affected in their thoughts during this difficult time.
