In Loving Memory of Louisa Gag

With profound sadness, family, friends, colleagues, and members of the Boston community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Louisa Gag, a longtime street safety advocate and transportation planner whose life ended following a tragic homicide crash near Roxbury Crossing.

Louisa dedicated her career to making streets safer, healthier, and more accessible for people throughout Boston and beyond. A native of Roslindale, she spent years working to improve transportation safety and create stronger communities through advocacy, planning, and public service.

Before joining Boston City Hall, Louisa spent six years with the LivableStreets Alliance, where she became a respected leader in the movement for safer streets. In early 2022, she joined the Boston Transportation Department as a transportation planner, bringing her years of advocacy experience into city government and helping turn important safety initiatives into action.

Throughout her career, Louisa played a key role in advancing Vision Zero efforts, working to reduce traffic deaths and serious injuries. She helped develop transportation safety strategies, contributed to community projects, and worked to ensure that streets were designed with people’s safety in mind.

Her dedication could be seen through projects such as the Lower Roxbury Slow Streets initiative and efforts to expand Boston’s bikesharing network, leaving behind a lasting impact on neighborhoods across the city.

Louisa’s sudden passing has left a deep void among those who knew and worked alongside her. She will be remembered for her passion, kindness, commitment to public service, and the countless lives she touched through her work.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu shared her grief over the loss, honoring Louisa’s contributions and the legacy she leaves behind in making streets safer and communities stronger.
