A 20-year-old man from Marysville has lost his life following a tragic single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday evening in Clallam Bay, Washington.
The victim was identified as Joseph M. Franklin, 20, who was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash occurred shortly before 8 p.m. on State Route 112 near milepost 18, west of the Clallam River.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Franklin was a passenger in a 1994 Ford Ranger that crashed after the driver attempted to pass another vehicle. Investigators said the pickup truck was traveling westbound when the driver moved into the eastbound lane to overtake another vehicle. During the maneuver, the vehicle reportedly lost control, rolled over, and came to rest on the westbound shoulder.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and attempted to provide assistance, but Franklin suffered fatal injuries and could not be saved.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Fransisco S. Qunneke-Guerrero, 20, of Forks. He was transported to Forks Community Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The Washington State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including what factors may have contributed to the collision.
