East Anchorage Community Mourns Two Victims Found in Burned Vehicle

Authorities have identified the man and woman found dead inside a burned vehicle in East Anchorage last month, along with a dog whose remains were also discovered inside the vehicle.

The victims were identified as David Bartholomew, 42, and Katherine Allen, 37, according to the Anchorage Police Department.

Officers responded early on the morning of June 30 after receiving reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames outside a mobile home park in the 900 block of Muldoon Road. The fire was extinguished, and investigators discovered the remains of two people inside the vehicle.

Police later confirmed that a deceased dog was also found at the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under investigation. Authorities have not released details about how the fire started or whether foul play is suspected.

Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Gina Romero said investigators are continuing to examine the case and that “the circumstances of this case remain under investigation.”

The dog, identified as Luna, reportedly belonged to a friend of David Bartholomew, who had been caring for the pet. According to animal rescue advocate Cynthia White, the dog’s owner became concerned after being unable to contact Bartholomew and reached out for help locating Luna. The owner later learned that Bartholomew and the dog were found inside the burned vehicle.

White said Bartholomew and Luna were last seen traveling from the 8000 block of East Second Avenue toward Muldoon Road during the overnight hours of June 29 into June 30.

As the investigation continues, family, friends, and loved ones are left grieving the loss of David Bartholomew and Katherine Allen while awaiting more answers about the tragic incident. Authorities are asking anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
