Three families and multiple communities are mourning after a devastating single-vehicle crash claimed the lives of three young men and left another seriously injured early Saturday morning in southern Wake County, North Carolina.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the fatal crash happened just after 12:28 a.m. along the northbound lanes of U.S. Route 1 near Friendship Road. Troopers responding to the scene discovered a horrific single-car rollover crash involving multiple fatalities.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. Authorities said the car veered off the right side of the roadway before overturning several times, causing catastrophic damage.
Investigators confirmed that 21-year-old Darius Josiah Stevens of Spring Lake, who was driving the vehicle, died at the scene. Front-seat passenger Ricky Rosas, 20, was also pronounced dead at the scene. Nineteen-year-old Marion Kim of Jacinto, who was seated in the left rear seat, was tragically killed after being ejected from the vehicle during the violent rollover. Authorities said Kim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The fourth occupant, identified as 22-year-old Luis Feliciano of Laredo, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries. He was transported to WakeMed Raleigh Campus for emergency treatment.
Investigators say excessive speed is believed to be the primary contributing factor in the tragic accident. The heartbreaking crash has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving the sudden loss of three young lives taken far too soon.
