With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Shreveport community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Imunique Williams, 22, and Chuckie Brooks, 57, whose lives ended following a tragic chain of events involving gunfire and vehicle crashes Thursday afternoon.
According to the Shreveport Police Department, the incident began shortly before 4 p.m. when officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 5800 block of Attaway Street. As officers were responding, they discovered a vehicle struck by gunfire near 61st Street and Linwood Avenue, where Imunique Williams was located inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police said investigators determined that Williams was allegedly pursued through the neighborhood while gunfire was exchanged, causing her vehicle to travel into oncoming traffic near Vernon Street and Linwood Avenue, where it collided with another vehicle.
The driver of the other vehicle was identified as Chuckie Brooks, 57. Brooks was transported to the hospital after emergency responders performed lifesaving efforts at the scene. Despite medical treatment, he later died from his injuries at approximately 7:35 p.m. Thursday, according to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said the incident continued after the crash, with gunfire directed at passing vehicles and people in the area. Three additional individuals were injured by gunfire but were reported to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified Thomas Lemons, 23, as the suspect in the deadly incident. He was arrested at the scene and later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on a charge of second-degree murder. Investigators said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
