The Missouri State Highway Patrol has identified the teenager who died following a drowning in the Meramec River near Castlewood State Park.
The victim has been identified as Keegan Elliott, 19. Authorities said next of kin has been notified.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Elliott’s body was recovered from the river on Friday, downstream from Castlewood State Park, where he had been swimming.
Search efforts began Wednesday night after emergency officials received a report of a witnessed drowning at approximately 8:15 p.m. Multiple emergency agencies responded to the scene and began searching the river.
Officials said about 20 emergency units and 60 first responders took part in the search. Crews searched for several hours before suspending operations overnight due to challenging river conditions. The search resumed early Thursday morning and continued until Elliott was located.
The tragic loss of Keegan Elliott has left his family, friends, and members of the Ballwin community mourning. Those who knew him are remembering his life, the memories they shared, and the impact he had on those around him.
