Teen Identified After Drowning in Meramec River Near Castlewood State Park

Family, friends, and members of the Ballwin community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Keegan Elliott, 19, whose life ended following a tragic drowning in the Meramec River near Castlewood State Park.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Elliott’s body was recovered from the river on Friday, downstream from the area where he had been swimming. Authorities said next of kin has been notified.

The search began Wednesday evening after emergency crews received a report of a witnessed drowning around 8:15 p.m. Multiple agencies responded to the scene as first responders worked to locate Elliott.

Officials said approximately 20 emergency units and 60 first responders assisted with the search. Crews searched the river for several hours before suspending operations overnight due to challenging river conditions. The search resumed early Thursday morning and continued until Elliott was found.
