According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 6:30 p.m. to the 11000 block of Maritime Drive near Garrett Road and East Sam Houston Parkway after receiving a report of a shooting.
When deputies arrived, they found Tonya suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency response efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities said Cody Prince, 29, was taken into custody at the residence and later charged with murder. Investigators said Prince and Tonya were believed to have been in a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship and had been involved in an argument earlier in the day.

Investigators said Prince contacted his stepfather after the shooting and informed him that an incident had occurred. The stepfather then contacted law enforcement. Authorities believe the individuals involved were connected to the residence where the shooting took place.
