Two people were killed and another person was injured following a devastating crash on Maynardville Pike in Knox County, Tennessee, on Friday, July 17, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 5:17 p.m. in the 8700 block of Maynardville Pike.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a Jeep Laredo driven by Devin King, 30, was reportedly fleeing from troopers when it crossed into the southbound lanes and collided head-on with a Ford Expedition.
King was pronounced dead as a result of the crash. Authorities said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The passenger in the Ford Expedition, Theresa Black, 24, also suffered fatal injuries and died as a result of the crash.
The driver of the Ford Expedition sustained injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Investigators noted that the driver attempted to avoid the collision by steering onto the shoulder, but the impact could not be avoided.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. No additional information has been released at this time.
