An 18-year-old Tompkinsville woman was killed and another teenager was injured Monday night following a single-vehicle crash on KY 63 (Old Glasgow Road) in Monroe County, according to Kentucky State Police.
The victim was identified as Lesly Chalchi-Gomez, 18, of Tompkinsville, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Monroe County Coroner.
According to Kentucky State Police Post 15, troopers responded to the crash just before 11 p.m. on KY 63. A preliminary investigation found that Garrett Tingle, 18, of Tompkinsville, was driving a 2000 Plymouth Neon northbound when the vehicle left the right side of the roadway, struck an earth embankment, and overturned.
Lesly Chalchi-Gomez, who was a passenger in the vehicle, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Tingle was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash has left family, friends, and the Tompkinsville community mourning the sudden loss of a young life taken far too soon. Loved ones are remembering Lesly as they cope with the heartbreak of losing someone with so much life ahead of her.
Emergency responders from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Fire/EMS, and Monroe County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Senior Trooper Brandon Roark of Kentucky State Police.
