Family, friends, classmates, and members of the Centralia community are mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of Hunter Hull, 17, a Centralia High School student and varsity basketball player whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating crash Wednesday night in Boone County, Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the fatal collision occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 124 and Gano Chance Road. Authorities said the crash involved two vehicles and remains under active investigation.
Investigators reported that the 17-year-old was driving westbound when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection. At the same time, a 28-year-old Columbia woman was traveling through the area in an SUV. In an attempt to avoid a collision, she crossed the center line of the roadway, but her vehicle struck the rear of the teen’s car. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn multiple times before Hunter was ejected.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and transported Hunter Hull to University Hospital, where medical staff worked urgently to save his life. Despite those efforts, he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Keilin Dorman of Centralia, also sustained serious injuries and was transported to University Hospital for emergency treatment. Officials confirmed that the SUV driver was also hospitalized with serious injuries following the crash.
News of Hunter’s passing has left the Centralia community in deep sorrow. The Centralia Panthers basketball program confirmed his identity, remembering him as a valued teammate and dedicated athlete. Hunter was a junior at Centralia High School, a member of the varsity boys’ basketball team, and actively participated in a traveling basketball program.
In a statement, the team expressed their grief, saying, “Hunter was an important part of our basketball family, and his loss is felt deeply by his teammates, coaches, classmates, and friends.”
As the community comes together to mourn, those who knew Hunter remember a young man full of energy, passion, and promise. His presence on the court and in the classroom left a lasting impression on those around him, and his loss is felt far beyond the basketball program.
Though his life ended far too soon, Hunter Hull will be remembered for the joy he brought to others, his dedication to his sport, and the lasting impact he made on his peers and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
