Mount Pleasant ISD Mourns the Loss of Two Students in Tragic Crash

With heavy hearts, family members, friends, classmates, and members of the Mount Pleasant community are mourning the tragic and sudden loss of 16-year-old Gavin Brooks and 21-year-old Morgan Brooks, whose lives were cut short in a devastating head-on crash on U.S. Highway 271 in Camp County, Texas.

The heartbreaking tragedy has left loved ones in deep sorrow as they struggle to process the loss of two siblings taken far too soon. Family and friends are now holding onto cherished memories while facing the unimaginable pain of their passing. Their absence has created an overwhelming void in the hearts of all who knew and loved them.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, troopers responded to the crash just south of the Titus County line at approximately 2:32 p.m. on Sunday. A preliminary investigation indicates that a white Nissan Altima, driven by 16-year-old Gavin Brooks of Mount Pleasant, crossed into the southbound lane while traveling northbound on Highway 271 and collided head-on with a semi-trailer.

Authorities confirmed that both Gavin and Morgan Brooks were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the semi-truck was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Officials have not released further details regarding their condition.

Following the tragedy, Mount Pleasant Independent School District released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the two students, remembering Morgan as a 2023 graduate and Gavin as a student in the Class of 2027. The district extended condolences to their family, friends, teachers, classmates, and the entire community.

As the investigation continues, the community has come together in grief, sharing prayers, memories, and support for the Brooks family during this incredibly difficult time.
