Police have identified a suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman in a housing complex near Sharpstown on Friday night, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers responded at approximately 7:50 p.m. to a shooting at New Hope Housing, located at 6015 Dale Carnegie Lane.
When authorities arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound at an apartment entrance doorway. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced her deceased.
The victim was identified as 44-year-old Ladana Murrell.
Investigators said a witness reported that Murrell and a man, identified as 46-year-old Michael D. Franklin, were involved in a physical altercation that escalated into gunfire. Police said Franklin fled the scene following the shooting.
Authorities confirmed that Murrell and Franklin were in a dating relationship.
Franklin has since been identified as the suspect and is currently wanted on a charge of murder. Houston police continue to search for him.
