In Loving Memory of Nykel Poole

It is with profound sadness that family, friends, and members of the Gulfport community mourn the tragic and untimely passing of Nykel Poole, 19, affectionately known as “Brat Kel,” whose life was cut short during a shooting on Monday night in Gulfport, Mississippi.

According to authorities, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:45 p.m. on June 29, 2026, in the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue. Responding officers found Nykel suffering from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of first responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene at 8:55 p.m., according to Harrison County Coroner Brian Switzer.

The tragic incident also left two other people with gunshot wounds. One of the surviving victims, Kateria Moore, remains in critical condition after being airlifted to a hospital. A second victim was transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital and also remains in critical condition.

Authorities have arrested John Gaddis III, 34, in connection with the shooting. Detectives say the incident stemmed from an ongoing narcotics-related dispute involving Gaddis and one of the victims. He has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Nykel’s death, along with two counts of aggravated assault, and is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center on a $2 million bond.

Nykel’s sudden passing has left an overwhelming sense of grief among those who knew and loved her. Affectionately known as “Brat Kel,” she will be remembered for the memories she created, the friendships she cherished, and the impact she made on the lives of those around her. Her death has left a void that cannot be filled.

As family and friends gather to honor her memory, they continue to cherish the moments they shared with her while praying for justice and for the recovery of the two victims who remain hospitalized.

Though her life ended far too soon, Nykel “Brat Kel” Poole will forever be remembered by all who loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
