Malik Javonn Somerville Identified as Victim in Fatal Thompson Corner Road Crash

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man Tuesday morning.

Emergency personnel responded at approximately 7:40 a.m. on June 30 to the 27500 block of Thompson Corner Road after reports of a serious crash. When first responders arrived, they discovered a green pickup truck that had left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities identified the driver as Malik Javonn Somerville, 27, of Chaptico.

His passing has left family, friends, and members of the Chaptico community heartbroken as they mourn this sudden and tragic loss.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to conduct a detailed investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound when it left the roadway for reasons still under investigation, striking a utility pole before colliding with a stand of trees.

Investigators say speed and driver error appear to have been contributing factors, though the official cause remains under review.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to examine all circumstances surrounding the incident.
