98-Year-Old Man Killed in Marshall Crash at Busy Intersection, Police Say

The Marshall Police Department is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning at the intersection of Loop 390 and Scottsville Road, marking the second deadly traffic incident in the city this week.

At approximately 9:52 a.m. on June 12, 2026, officers responded to reports of a collision involving a passenger vehicle and a truck. Upon arrival, emergency crews with the Marshall Fire Department provided immediate medical assistance and transported the driver of the passenger vehicle to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Felton Augusta Hopkins Jr., 98, of Marshall. Authorities confirmed that the driver of the truck involved in the crash was not injured.

At this time, no charges have been filed, and the crash remains under active investigation by the Marshall Police Department as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the collision.

Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth addressed the incident, noting the impact of repeated tragedies within the community. “This is the second fatal crash our community has experienced this week, and each loss is tragic,” Carruth said. “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr. Hopkins during this difficult time. We want to remind everyone to slow down, stay focused, and use extra caution on our roadways. A moment of attention can make all the difference.”

Officials continue to urge drivers to remain alert, obey traffic laws, and practice defensive driving as investigations continue and efforts are made to prevent further fatal crashes in the area.
