With profound sadness and heavy hearts, family, friends, and members of the Madison community are mourning the tragic loss of Tyler Atkinson, 37, who was killed in a devastating ATV crash early Sunday morning in Madison, Maine.
According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called shortly after midnight to East Madison Road after reports of a serious rollover crash. When deputies arrived, they found Atkinson, who had been operating the ATV, suffering from critical injuries. Despite rapid response efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities said Atkinson and his passenger, Corey Gordea, 33, had been traveling on Abenaki Road when the ATV failed to stop at the intersection with East Madison Road. The vehicle crossed the roadway, entered a ditch, struck a tree, and overturned.
Investigators noted that neither individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Preliminary findings also suggest that speed and alcohol may have played a role in the incident, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The passenger, Corey Gordea, sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan for treatment. His condition has not been publicly released.
Deputies from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, along with personnel from the Madison Fire Department, responded to the scene and assisted with the initial investigation and recovery efforts.
Tyler’s sudden passing has left his family and community in deep grief as they struggle to process this heartbreaking loss. He is remembered for the moments he shared, the people he cared for, and the impact he had on those around him.
We remember and honor Tyler Atkinson, holding onto his memory with love and respect. Though his life was cut short, he will remain forever cherished and deeply missed.
May he rest in peace.
