Suspect in Fatal Brooks Drive Shooting Held on No-Bond Murder Charges

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A Temple Hills man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend in what police are investigating as a domestic-related homicide.

Authorities identified the suspect as Terrence Penn Jr., 31, of Temple Hills, who is charged in the death of Dakota Keys, 31, of Capitol Heights.

According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, officers responded on July 4, 2026, at approximately 10:10 p.m. to the 1900 block of Brooks Drive after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a woman inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators said that following the shooting, the suspect fled the area. However, he later turned himself in to authorities a short time afterward.

Penn Jr. has been charged with first-degree murder and second-degree murder. He is currently in custody with the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Police confirmed the investigation remains ongoing and is being handled as a domestic-related case. No additional details have been released regarding the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
