Family members, friends, and members of the Capitol Heights community mourn the tragic and sudden loss of Dakota Keys, 31, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, who lost her life following a fatal shooting on July 4, 2026.
According to authorities, emergency responders were called at approximately 10:10 p.m. to the 1900 block of Brooks Drive after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they discovered Dakota inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Her passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her. What began as an ordinary evening ended in heartbreaking tragedy, leaving family and friends struggling to process the sudden loss.
