Family members, friends, and members of the Columbia community are remembering and honoring the life of Donerell M. Lykes, 36, who died following a tragic three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in the Swansea area of Lexington County, South Carolina.
Donerell’s unexpected passing has brought deep sadness to those who knew and loved him. His family and friends are grieving the loss of a cherished life while holding close the memories, moments, and experiences they shared with him.
According to officials, the fatal collision occurred around 6:50 a.m. at the intersection of W.E. Jeffcoat Road and Highway 6 in the Swansea area.
Lexington County Coroner Fisher said Donerell was traveling north on W.E. Jeffcoat Road when his vehicle failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with Highway 6. His vehicle was then struck by a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on Highway 6.
Officials said the impact caused Donerell to be ejected from his vehicle, after which he was struck by another vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 6. The third vehicle involved left the area before emergency responders arrived.
Donerell suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office as authorities continue working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the collision.
