With profound sadness, family, friends, and the Shubuta community mourn the loss of Howard Austin, 63, whose life ended following a tragic crash on U.S. Highway 45 in the Rolling Creek Community.
Howard’s passing has left family, friends, and loved ones grieving the heartbreaking loss of a life taken far too soon. According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Howard was struck by an 18-wheeler while walking along Highway 45 near County Road 345.
The crash happened around 2:00 a.m. when a 2022 International 18-wheeler traveling southbound encountered a pedestrian in the roadway. The driver attempted to avoid a collision by swerving and partially leaving the highway, but the vehicle’s right front struck Howard.
Despite efforts to avoid the crash, Howard suffered fatal injuries and later succumbed. The scene was investigated by Mississippi Highway Patrol troopers, who remained on scene gathering evidence and working to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
As family and friends mourn this devastating loss, they are remembering Howard for the life he lived and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
