Father and Teen Son Killed in Tragic Iowa County Crash Near Amana

IOWA COUNTY, Iowa — A heartbreaking crash north of Amana on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of a man and a teenage boy, leaving their family, friends, and communities in mourning.

Authorities have identified the victims as Colton Havel, 33, of Amana, and Sawyer Havel, 14, of North Liberty, who both died as a result of the collision.

According to a preliminary investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Colton and Sawyer were traveling westbound on 110th Street in a Ford Escape when the vehicle failed to stop at a posted stop sign at the intersection with Highway 151.

At the same time, an Amana Farms vehicle driven by Roger Lindsey, 41, of Marengo, was traveling southbound on Highway 151 when it collided with the Ford Escape.

Despite both Colton and Sawyer wearing their seat belts, they sustained fatal injuries in the violent crash and were pronounced deceased.

The tragic loss of Colton and Sawyer has sent waves of grief throughout the Amana and North Liberty communities, where they are being remembered with love and heartfelt condolences. Family members, friends, and neighbors are mourning two lives taken far too soon.

The Iowa State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. Additional details have not yet been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
