70-Year-Old Woman Killed, Two Teens Injured in Fatal Wayne County Head-On Crash

A fatal head-on crash in Wayne County on Saturday afternoon has left one person dead and two teenagers seriously injured, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said deputies responded at approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 13, 2026, to reports of a serious motor vehicle crash on State Road 38 just east of Jacksonburg Road. Initial reports indicated a head-on collision involving two vehicles, with multiple occupants trapped inside. Emergency crews, including deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel, quickly arrived at the scene and found three people involved in the crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2013 Ford Focus, driven by a 16-year-old male from Centerville, Indiana, was traveling eastbound on State Road 38 when the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2011 Nissan driven by Sue E. Gettinger, 70, of Greens Fork. Another 16-year-old male from Centerville was riding as a passenger in the Ford Focus.

Officials said Sue E. Gettinger was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Both teenagers inside the Ford Focus had to be extricated from the heavily damaged vehicle by emergency crews. The driver was airlifted by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, while the passenger was transported by ambulance to Reid Health for medical treatment.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing investigation as authorities continue working to determine all factors that contributed to the tragic collision. No additional details have been released at this time.
