The Jackson Police Department is investigating the death of a 23-year-old man who was found deceased Saturday morning near Larkspur Street and Holmes Avenue.
According to police, officers responded at approximately 8:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a deceased Black male lying in a ditch in the area.
Investigators said the person who contacted 911 reported discovering the victim while walking along Holmes Avenue. After finding the man, the caller immediately notified emergency responders.
Officers from the Jackson Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Division, the Hinds County Coroner’s Office, and AMR responded to the scene.
Authorities identified the victim as Christopher Blakely, 23. Police confirmed that his next of kin has been notified.
According to investigators, Christopher is believed to have been deceased for several hours before he was discovered Saturday morning.
Police also said neighbors in the area reported hearing a gunshot sometime before midnight, leading investigators to believe the fatal incident may have occurred hours before the victim was found.
At this time, authorities have not released any suspect information, and no arrests have been announced.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives continue working to determine the circumstances surrounding Christopher Blakely’s death and identify those responsible.
