Dartel Long Jr., 20, Dies in Drowning at Nolin Lake in Edmonson County, Kentucky

The Greenwood High School community is mourning the tragic loss of Dartel Long Jr., 20, a 2024 graduate and former standout athlete who died following a reported drowning at Nolin Lake in Edmonson County, Kentucky.

According to the Edmonson County Coroner’s Office, Long, a Bowling Green resident, died after the incident occurred on the evening of July 19. Emergency personnel responded around dusk to Juniper Lane off Dickeys Mill Road at Nolin Lake following a report of a possible drowning.

Despite rescue efforts, Long did not survive.

The Edmonson County Coroner’s Office said no foul play is suspected. Further details surrounding the circumstances of the drowning have not been released.

Several agencies responded to the scene, including the Lincoln Volunteer Fire Department, EMS, Edmonson County Emergency Management, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

News of Long’s passing has deeply affected the Greenwood High School community, where he was remembered as a member of the Class of 2024 and a talented athlete who competed in football and track.

Greenwood Football shared a message honoring Long’s life and expressing condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and loved ones.
