Ohio — A Lancaster man has died following a single-vehicle crash that occurred early Wednesday morning in Berne Township, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
Authorities said the crash happened on June 10, 2026, at approximately 2:43 a.m., after the OSHP Lancaster Post received a report of a crash on Horns Mill Road near Raver Court.
Upon investigation, troopers determined that a 2013 Fiat 500 was traveling northbound on Horns Mill Road when it failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned, ejecting the driver.
The driver was identified as Ian James McCoy.
McCoy was transported by Berne Township EMS to Fairfield Medical Center. He was later transferred to The Ohio State University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities reported that alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash. Officials also noted that McCoy was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the incident.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Berne Township Fire and EMS, Lancaster Fire and EMS, and Sniders Towing.
The crash remains under investigation as troopers continue to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
Family, friends, and members of the Lancaster community are now mourning the sudden loss of Ian James McCoy, whose life was tragically cut short in the early morning crash.
