Fatal Route 61 Crash Involves E-Bike and Tractor-Trailer in Schuylkill County

A 45-year-old Schuylkill Haven man was killed Thursday night following a collision involving an electric pedal cycle and a tractor-trailer on Route 61 in Schuylkill County, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

State Police at Schuylkill Haven reported that the crash occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. on June 11, 2026, on Route 61 northbound just north of Seven Stars Road in North Manheim Township.

Investigators said a 2024 International LT62F tractor-trailer, driven by Edwin J. Viera, 38, of Vineland, New Jersey, was traveling in the right lane when it struck an electric pedal cycle traveling along the right shoulder near the fog line. Police stated that the front passenger-side bumper of the truck made contact with the rear of the cycle.

Following the impact, the tractor-trailer sustained minor cosmetic damage, while the electric pedal cycle was heavily damaged in the rear. Emergency responders with Schuylkill EMS transported the cyclist to Lehigh Valley Hospital–East Pottsville, where he was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities confirmed the victim was a 45-year-old male from Schuylkill Haven; his name has not been publicly released.

The crash site was secured overnight as investigators conducted a detailed reconstruction of the scene, collecting evidence and documenting roadway conditions to determine the circumstances leading up to the collision.

The incident remains under active investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven.
